2022 The Year of Integration

We all know the idea of Ying-Yang, but I often forget its meaning:

Two opposites are a way of understanding or describing the self-balancing aspects of one (concept, idea, object). The Ying-Yang idea connects our perceptions of the world with how they make us feel.

To put it in a practical example, instead of fighting for who is right (two opposites), we should find a solution to the problem (one concept) together. It’s easier said than done, of course, and we can start by wishing for all of us:

A new year where we do our best to integrate, unite, relate, and solve challenges as communities.

The power of words

If to me, entrepreneurship means a lifestyle of adventure, and to you, it means business, we might get into some misunderstandings after a conversation on the subject.

When we consciously realize that we all understand the words differently, we recognize that we need to align our words and their meaning to communicate effectively.

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” ― Albert Einstein.

One way of changing how we think, is by changing the way we use language, changing the the world without even noticing!

Note: An inclusive language (the opposite of they vs. we), can make it easier for us to solve problems.

Can we change the world by communicating more effectively?

It is clear that expanding our vocabulary enriches our thinking process; it is like adding colors, detail, and resolution to an image. What about the power of words for teams, groups, communities, or even the entire world?

The power of words, beyond the personal level, manifests when they communicate a core message effectively with as many people as possible.

We can use words to integrate, find common ground, and activate collective creativity. In contrast, words are often used to make others wrong, avoid responsibility, and disempower.

We probably misscommunicate because of our fears and insecurities, we use language to mask our emotions and keep an appereance of control, strength, and authority. We even use language to manipulate using fear tactics, and even to manipulate our own decisions.

How to start communicating more effectively?

We have created a Canvas to support the process. You'll find it a few lines below.

I hope you like it,

Jose.

The Undictionary Canvas

It started as a book, but it is evolving as a tool. The Idea of the Undictionary is to define important concepts to support the alignment process when you communicate with others: “This is how I understand the word entrepreneurship...”

You can use the Undictionary Canvas as a way to add clarity to your thinking process, or you could use it to share your definitions with colleagues, friends, or the entire world.

More exciting to me is to use the Undictionary to identify the words that matter for a specific topic or a group of people. Imagine, to have an undictionary for your team at work!

The Undictionary could be understood as a glossary of terms on steroids. Download the PDF to learn how to use it.
