Fear & Integration - Lincoln Island's Journey

My recent encounter with Fear

I'm the one that talks about Fear, and just in the past few weeks, I faced Fear twice. I want to share one of the stories to show how Fear lurks in our personal development.

You know I have been an IT professional for most of my life. Ten years ago, I decided to let go of the tech world and embrace Social Entrepreneurship. But recently, since I started talking about "integration," I got an opportunity to get back into the IT world. To make the story short, I got a call from an old customer, I made an offer, and we scheduled a meeting.

Before driving to the meeting, I felt a strong call to cancel the appointment. My wife caught me in hesitation and said, just go and see what happens. I did and found myself enjoying the meeting. More than that, I found my IT skills were up to the challenge. Fear transformed into enthusiasm, and now, after four weeks of working with them, I know that the past decade of working with freelancers and entrepreneurs strengthened my people skills. I feel more confident than ever!

Here are some questions to connect the story with your experience:

  1. Change is a trigger for Fear. Do you expose yourself to change, or do you avoid it?
  2. What risks are you taking?
  3. Is it easy for you to identify thoughts produced by Fear?

We are in this together; we are not alone. Most of us experience Fear in one way or another. But if you consider it a clue to growth, paying attention to what we resist makes sense.

The Chihuahuas

Shortly after sending the last newsletter, I went to Valencia for the Coworking Spain Conference. As I walked through the streets, I found uncountable numbers of Chihuahuas! One more confirmation of the thesis of our last newsletter: perception can change reality.

“Doubting yourself can lead to a sense of hopelessness, of not being inherently fit to take on the task at hand. All or nothing thinking is a nonstarter.

However, doubting the quality of your work might, at times, help to improve it. You can doubt your way to excellence.”
― Rick Rubin, The Creative Act: A Way of Being

I wish you an energizing June. Despite the challenges, it may present to you, be sure you can always talk with someone about what you are experiencing. It helps a lot!

Be a rainbow? what does she mean?

December, 2024. Dear Reader, I hope this message finds you well and prepared to let go of 2024 and embrace a new year, always a symbolic opportunity for alignment. Maya Angelou "When it looked like the sun Wasn't gonna shine anymore God put a rainbow in the clouds. God put a rainbow in the clouds." Maya Angelou reminds us to 'Be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.' Within each of us lies peace and light, waiting to be discovered. Even the simplest gestures can make someone’s life experience a...

Let's define what "Know thyself" really means

November, 2024. Dear Reader, This one is short, I hope you find it useful. Doubts or questions? just reply :) "Know thyself" was the first thing I heard during Franklin Covey's leadership training program. For years, I misunderstood it entirely. How could I ever become a leader if I first needed to "know myself"? And how could I truly know myself when life is constantly changing? It took nearly thirty years to realize that "thyself" doesn’t refer to my personality. Our personality evolves—it...

In Lincoln Island's framework, community building (CB) is a pillar of entrepreneurship. Like any concept, CB can be interpreted in many ways. But CB isn’t networking. It’s not about building databases of contacts either. At its core, CB is about actively participating in groups united by shared interests or...
